Compacted Math – 6th Graders Explore Algebra

Sixth compacted math students recently began their studies of algebra.  They began by using an “algebra balance” to find an unknown quantity of disks in a container.  They connected the concept of balance to equality in an equation.  Then they played a game called Balanced/Not Balanced, sorting equations into groups based on whether or not the sides of the equation would balance.
