8th Grade Science - Water Density

Eighth grade students recently learned about water density and the chemistry behind how temperature affects it. Using different colored water - green being cold water and blue being hot water - students poured one on top of the other and observed that instead of mixing, they stayed separate. This is because the hot water floats on top while the cold water sinks due to the density differences due to temperature.
